See, that's just the thing. If you have time for personal interests or hobbies, you should fill it with "spiritual activities", not by doing things that will just be destroyed at Armageddon. If any one in the hall knows that you do have spare time, like a day off work during the week, they will be sure to fill it for you - even though you don't need them to. The only excuse for not being out in FS is to be earning a living. Still they will say about you, her husband earns enough to support them, why does she need to work. She should quit her job and pioneer. Anything enjoyable is seen as a waste of time.

Lack of hobbies and personal interests prompts some to pioneer
by truthseeker insome in my hall are bored.
they've either been laid off or they've taken a break from pioneering, whether its regular or auxiliary.. they have little in the way of personal pursuits or interests.. to fill this apparent lack of personal development and self fulfillment, they reason it is better to spend time in the ministry.. then when personal problems arise, they quit.
they can't keep up with the routine.. they get bored again and unfulfilled.

Memorial at the nicest country club in the area!
by Burger Time inmy brother informed me over the weekend that in gastonia nc the memorial for their congregation is going to be held at the nicest country club in gastonia.
in fact a lot of local celebrities live there including sherry from the nationally syndicated radio show bob & sherry.
a good bit of people are upset at this, as it's out of the way and a bit hard to find.

I didn't think that country clubs just rented space without food service - at least hors d'oveurs and cocktails.

So who here has seen Russels grave? Weird huh?
by oompa ini just found out my 67 year old elder/dad has been there too, with his sister who used to live up that way.
it is freaky-deaky weird/scary.
why the hey would jesus pick a weirdo group that thinks pagan egyptian pyramids (who used to enslave and torture gods people) could give the answer to his second coming....pathetic...................oompa

The weird thing about Russel's grave is that people can't put it together and realize that it is weird. I live less than an hour away from his grave so, all the JW's around here take thier visiting friends to see it so that they will be soooo impressed. But I never knew that it existed until somebody told me that they took their girlfriend to see it. And that it was a pyramid. I thought that was totally weird and the guy I was talking to was like, "Why's that weird?"

I only got 6 right also. I think one thing that made it a little harder was the fact that they grouped Native American with Native Hawaiian and would have Asian as a separate ansewer. Native Hawaiian is ususally classified as Pacific Islander, as would be Japanese, which is also Asian.

I just listened to this. Not sure what to think of it. The Dr. they interviewed sounded like a pretty nice guy. He says he beleives in healing the whole person, including thier spiritual side, thats why he works with JW cancer patients. I guess the sad part is that there is nothing spiritual about JW' s. Being spiritual means doing what men say.

I think that being in the the WT causes a person's mind to atrophy over time. As Pioneer Spit said, they never learn anything new. We have all heard stories of ones who "studied themselves right out of the truth." So you better not learn anything new or Satan will getcha. Besides, who of them has the time to read anyhting other than what they are already required? They are always reading but, never learning. I felt it happen to me, my mind atrophying. But after being out for a year, my smarts are growing back!

Not enough to consider for a second going back but, yeah, I kinda miss the excuse of not having to fully get involved in Holidays as I am sort of dreading the thought of Easter. Sometimes I think about the friends that I had but I guess none of them were really friends. What would we talk about today? We'd be starting over - its my fault too. How good of a friend was it if all that you had in common was "the truth"?

Of Pedophelia and False Positives
by inkling inok, something has been bugging me recently, so please forgive meas i play devil's advocate for a moment.
child abuse of any type is horrific, and when it is sexual innature it can cause unimaginably cruel and life-long damage.i think we can all agree on that.
however, in the past irreparable damage to people's lives havealso been caused by accusations of child abuse that turnedout to be baseless... families are torn apart, trust is shredded, reputations ruined, all because a child misunderstood something, or fabricated a story to get attention, or was pressured by paranoid and possibly abused adults into remembering things that never happened.

Thanks for bringing up this topic. I personally know two separate, unrelated people who this has happened to. In one case the charges were dropped because the kid was proven to be a liar with a history of making false accusations. In the other case, the accused took a plea bargin, went to jail on work release and has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. Why would he do that if he is innocent? Two judges weaseled thier way out of hearing the case and the third one threatened him. His laywer that he could not afford offered no help either. Plus he was a middle-aged, fat, bald guy that lived in a trailer park - isn't everyone who fits that discription a child-molester. The plea bargin he took was alot better than 25 years in prison as a baby raper. That, Outlaw, is what people are afraid of.

Southern Test.
by hillbilly inhow i know i have entered the south... if i order "sweet tea" and the wait-staff does not point at the sugar and sweet-n-low on the table.. that's a high 90% indication i am in the "south".. florida may not always be the south... the paradox that comes from being as far east as it is south.
even ocala and winter haven are overun with michigan and new yorkers now days.. oklahoma is ok... some parts or southern... others , western buy so far i dont find many "yankees" around here.. parts of michigan may be in the south... during ww2 much of the south went up and stayed.
in some places you find grits easier than german sausage.

Hey, I'm from PA and I know what sweet tea is. McDonalds started serving it last summer. With all those nationwide (and international) chain restaurants, nothing is region specific. But if McDonalds started serving pierogies...that would be something.

Pledge of Allegiance
by Princess Daisy Boo insouth africa is considering bringing in a "pledge" that kids in school will repeat each day.
we never had such a thing as kids growing up, but when the national anthem was sung, we always had to stay seated and not participate.
i remember always hearing about flag saluting in other countries.

I think that the pledge of allegiance is really funny, actually. Just the way that people recite it anyway. Think about it. We were taught the Pledge at age 5. How many 5 year olds know what the words "pledge", "allegiance", "republic" , "indivisible", and "liberty" mean. Not many, and the kindergarten teacher doesn't tell you either. Usually by the 4th grade most kids realise that the correct word is not "invisible". But all the way up to 12th grade most kids still start off by saying "I pledge OF allegiance to the flag..." Therefore, the pledge of allegiance means absoultely nothing to most US school students.
